Why I specialize in cancer
When I was in college, my grandmother was diagnosed with colon cancer. I’d spend evenings with her in the hospital and found myself wondering where the support was. Nurses were overwhelmed; who else was coming in to help patients, especially in the evening? After she passed, I pursued social work and did an internship in oncology at the Cleveland Clinic. I absolutely fell in love with the opportunity to help people like my grandmother who had no idea what was going on, had no education in cancer, and had very little support.
What Jasper patients have said about working with me
“While talking to Abby, I could feel the weight lift from my shoulders. I feel lighter just from having Abby listen to me.”
What I love best about my work is being able to offer a virtual hand to hold. My patients know that they can email me when they’re having a terrible day, or they can send me a text message asking what to do about something. I genuinely like being available to them and knowing how to help and direct them toward resources and referrals.
